Is it safe to handle a Pensacola opossum with bare hands?

A Florida opossum sometimes cause serious injury to your animal or pet while it starts fighting for food. The opossum is very untidy and huge nuisance when it enters your home, shed or porch. It must be out of your home and you have to take decision how to remove it from your house, shed or porch before it harm to your and to your pet. Opossums break up garbage, tear down garbage cans, injure animals and carry many diseases while defecating on their clean paths, grass, and porch.



Feeding:
The Pensacola opossum is mainly vegetarian and to feed at night it descends from the trees, in the middle of the forest and eats roots of small bushes, corncobs, and some other fruits. It also feeds on rats, mice, worms, insects and small reptiles such as lizards. This tiny yet dangerous mammal has the size of an adult cat do not attack people except they are suffering from rabies. Opossums are one of the nocturnal animals. They feel more comfortable and secure in the night time. Many people will never find the existence of opossums unless they find evidence in their yard, garden, or home. Garbage, broken items, gardens, empty pet feeder, scattered garbage, compost piles or cans may indicate the presence of opossums.

Is it safe to handle an opossum with bare hands?
The Florida opossum is considered as a small yet wild mammal. When you come closer to it, it plays dead games and at the same time if you will try to catch, it becomes aggressive and it many bites, claw, or scratch to get free. If you will try to catch it with your bare hands, it may bite and attack you. Many times, an opossum can cause you very serious injuries and those cuts on your skin may get infected sometimes.

In addition, many times Pensacola opossum carries various diseases like rabies. If you will try to catch or hold it with your bare hands, it may bite and scratch you and you will have to face those diseases whatever it carries. Many people believe themselves as a brave person and they don’t wear gloves, but it may be harmful to your health and sometimes it can be quite serious. So it is highly advised not to try to catch or hold it with your bare hands.
